FabFitFun Style Clothing Subscription Box – A First Look

FabFitFun Style Clothing Subscription BoxDisclosure: This post may contain affiliate links. See my Affiliate Disclosure to learn more.

The latest company to join the clothing subscription box craze is FabFitFun with their aptly named FabFitFun Style clothing subscription box. I am writing this post, as this serivce is offered by the same company as the FabFitFun Fall Box 2018, I reviewed previously.

I hate clothes shopping, and even setting foot inside a mall raises my stress levels, so anything that makes the task of shopping for clothes easier, I’m all for it. Especially when I can try things on in the comfort of my own home.

How It Works:

Similar to other monthly clothing subscription boxes, like Stitch Fix, FabFitFun requires that you fill out a style questionnaire, and pay a $20 “styling fee.”

You are then assigned a stylist, who selects items for you based on your style profile and specified budget. The $20 Styling Fee will be applied any selections that you choose to keep from your box, and if you decide to purchase everything you received, you will also receive a 25% discount on the final price. Now that’s a sweet deal if I do say so myself.

The service gives you three days from the date of receipt of your shipment to try everything on, and finalize your order.

What Was In My Box:

I first filled out my FabFitFun Style questionnaire on October 5, 2018, and within about a week and a half, I had already been assigned a stylist and charged my first $20 styling fee. My first box shipped nearly a week later.

My shipment contained a fun mix of five different stylish Fall items, which also included a purse to tie it all together.

Madison West Distressed Saddle BagItem: Madison West Vegan Leather Distressed Saddle Bag
Price:
$52.00
Description:
A distressed tan faux leather shoulder bag. The flap has a double-sided zipper with plenty of storage. The inner compartment has a zip closure, with side zip compartment, and small side pocket for keys. Bottom of the main compartment features a zipper for slight expansion in storage in the main compartment. Additional small zipper compartment on the back of the bag.
Keep or Return:
I have to admit when I first saw this bag I had no interest in it at all until I started writing this post. Now after looking at it further, I must admit it has a fair amount of storage for its size. I love the color, and it has a nice feel to it, especially for it not being real leather. While I have fallen in love with this bag, I regretfully have to send it back, because I currently do not need yet another purse, and there are not enough funds in the budget to add another bag to my collection.

Item:Sweet Rain Cross Front Floral Woven Top Sweet Rain Cross Front Floral Woven Top – M
Price:
$42.00
Description:
A deep chocolate brown floral cap sleeve top. Top features a button closure at the back of the neck, and v-neck front with a delicate crisscross design. Side slits at the waist allow for a lightweight, fun and flowy fit with skinny jeans, or even a skirt.
Keep or Return:
While I loved the color of this top as soon as I took it out of the box, it was the that concerned me. As a Breast Cancer survivor, who has gone through a bilateral mastectomy, as well as reconstruction surgery with permanent implants, I can no longer wear low cut tops like this, as I don’t have the natural cleavage I had before cancer entering my life. This top also was a bit tight-fitting on me, specifically around the belly, as that is where I carry the majority of my extra weight. Trying it on made me feel self-conscious, and reminded me that I need to work on losing those extra pounds that I put on post Breast Cancer. I don’t blame my stylist at all for this pick, as she did not know about my Breast Cancer background.

Kut from the Cloth Mia High Waist Skinny JeansItem: Kut from the Cloth Mia High Waist Skinny Jeans – 6
Price:
$89.00
Description:
A classic dark wash high waisted ultra skinny jean in Goodly Dark Indigo rinse. Cotton/Poly/Elastane blend with a 10″ rise. Classic 5 pocket styling. On trend, and a must-have wardrobe staple for every closet.
Keep or Return:
As a boot cut lover for many years, I just recently started adding skinny leg jeans to my wardrobe, and I have to admit I have fallen in love with them. 7 for all Mankind is one of my current favorites. So when I saw a pair of skinny leg jeans in my box, I was hopeful yet hesitant due to the high waisted style. Majority of my jeans are mid-rise, which falls just below the belly button area.

While high waists are coming back into style, sadly this was just not the pair of jeans for me. As I said before, I carry the majority of my weight around my waist area, which makes finding a good fitting pair of jeans somewhat tricky. Trying these jeans on was a bit of a struggle. They felt like tight-fitting spandex around my ankles, and while I was able to button them, they weren’t particularly comfortable, or flattering to my current build. So they will be going back.

Item:Dreamers Drape Front Open Knit Cardigan Dreamers Drape Front Open Knit Charcoal Grey Cardigan – M/L
Price:
$49.00
Description:
A lightweight, yet, oh so cozy, an open front cardigan that pairs perfectly with skinny jeans. Cotton/Rayon blend, with classic lines and no pockets.
Keep or Return:
I immediately fell in love with this cardigan the first time I placed my hands on it, and I was sold on this sweater as soon as I tried it on. Having tried other clothing subscription boxes in the past, I have always had the luck of falling in love with usually the most expensive item in the box. In this case, I was surprisingly lucky in the fact that this cardigan was nowhere near as expensive as I was expecting it to be, and affordable after my $20 style credit is applied. Sure I already have a fair amount of cardigans in my closet, but I just couldn’t let this one go. It will pair perfectly with the jeans I already have in my wardrobe and is loose fitting enough to put a long sleeve tee under and still be perfectly comfortable. While I don’t need yet another cardigan, I couldn’t bear to part with this one. So it will be my one keeper out of the box.

Miracle Kyoto Sweater BackItem: Miracle Kyoto Knot Back Sweater – M/L
Price:
$49.00
Description:
A lightweight knit v-neck sweater with a trendy back knot designed to pair with skinny jeans for a casual look for fall.
Keep or Return:
As soon as I took this sweater out of the box, I was already hesitant about how comfortable it would be once I put it on. While I liked the classic v-neck front and the lightweight knit material, I did not like the back of this sweater, seen in the photo, in the least. The knot was very uncomfortable when standing, so I can’t possibly imagine that it would be any better when sitting in a chair. I’m all for trying new trends, but this one just happened to be a miss for me, so this sweater will be going back.

How to Join:

At this time, the FabFitFun Style subscription box is currently in its Pilot stage, so it is only open to existing FabFitFun Members. But that doesn’t mean you need to miss out! Just visit my FabFitFun website, and sign up for your first FabFitFun subscription box. I know they are rolling this service out slowly, so if you don’t receive an email, no worries, FabFitFun support can help you out.

Is FabFitFun Style Worth the Money?

I’m the type of person who loves surprises and prefers to do all her shopping online. So it should come as no surprise that I love the excitement of getting subscription boxes in the mail. That’s just one of the many reasons why I’m a FabFitFun member. I have used clothing subscription services in the past, Stitch Fix specifically, and the items I received were just too expensive for my budget.

I like FabFitFun Style because they gave me a budget option, and if I chose to keep all the items I received, it would have cost me less than $200, Stitch Fix, on the other hand, has cost well over $300 for the same amount of items. The affordability of this FabFitFun box subscription box makes it a much better deal in my opinion. I already completed the checkout process for this box, and have already opted in to receive another shipment in a few months time.

There is currently no obligation to continue receiving the FabFitFun style boxes if you choose to sign up. I like the opportunity to try out new styles, in the comfort of my home, that I normally may not even consider in the store. If this sounds like you, I highly encourage you to give them a try. You have nothing to lose, and a variety of new wardrobe favorites to gain.

I think that it is a great idea to recieve and be able to try on new items of clothing in the comfort of your own home.  I do not go out much and it would be so much easier to try things on at home rather than have to go to the store and spend an entire day going through racks of clothing only to end up with one or two items that you like enough to buy.

I tend to always have bad luck when I go shopping. Either I find something I love and they don’t have it in my size, or it doesn’t fit at all like I would have hoped. As I’ve gotten older, and put on some weight post Breast Cancer, I’m a lot more self conscious about trying clothes on, and you can’t always trust the sales associate to be honest with you. This was my first time trying this service, and it’s much more affordable than other clothing subscription boxes. You can’t beat that!

This is a review of a clothing subscription. Reading through the review it would appear to be quite new on the market.

As many people prefer home shopping these days this seems a good product to be looking at. The review is well laid out and covers all you need to know when looking for this type of product.

Yes, this program is still in the Pilot, or Beta stage, so it’s currently not open to the general public, just existing FabFitFun Members. The style questionnaire is very thorough, but it does require you be honest with yourself when filling in your sizes, as that is the only information that the stylist has to go by. It’s much more affordable than similar services. Thanks for commenting!

My wife might well love ths service. We ha e looked at a few, including Stitch Fix, but have yet to give it a try. I will share this blog post with her and see if she finds it as interesting as I have. We do like to receive packages in the mail as well, so that is a draw. The price seems reasonable.

I believe that it would be great not having to go into a dressing room and rush around at a store. Plus being able to try new things and shop outside the box is a good thing as well. Thank you for this great look at FabFitFun Box and what they have to offer.

I’ve used Stitch Fix in the past, and my problem with them was the cost. Even the “affordable” items, cost $50 or more. With the FabFitFun Style box, the most expensive item in my box was the jeans, and the sweater I kept only cost me an additional $29 after my “style fee” was applied. I’m guilty of being set in my ways when it comes to style, and these boxes help me step outside my comfort zone, all in the comfort of home. No unpleasing mall lighting required.

    Hi

This is the first time I am hearing about this service, so that you for sharing.

This is a brilliant concept for people that a leading busy lives and those with mobility challenges.

It also takes the time out of walking around the shops and trying on.  Although this can be fun for many people but for others it can be a pain.

Like yourself if must be lovely getting presents and then opening them, this must be really exciting.  I am getting excited thinking about it.

I think I will be giving this a try because it sounds great and will save me a lot of time and mean that I can focus on other things and at the same time look amazing. lol

    Thanks

    Jennifer

Clothing Subscription services like FabFitFun Style are great because many times they offer access to brands and styles that may not always be available at your local mall. For example the Kut from the Kloth jeans I received, it is highly unlikely that I would be able to go down to my local mall and find a store that carries them. I would most likely have to drive at least an hour to find a store that sells upscale brands like that. And I just don’t have the time to do that. Not to mention running the risk that they would not be available in my size, a very common problem of mine.

Also, these boxes try and bundle together items that pair well together. In this one shipment alone there were multiple wardrobe options, it just happened that most of the styles either didn’t fit, or were not to my liking. I definitely recommend this service, and there is no obligation to continue with it, if it doesn’t work for you.

Thank you for sharing Fabfitfun, am happy that you enjoyed their offer, can they mail to any part of the world? Despite commending their price, I suggest you can still check prices with others that offer the same kind of service, it might end up as extra cash for you … Who knows?

    Thanks for sharing.

Since FabFitFun Style is part of the FabFitFun subscription, the service is currently available to ship only to the US, Canada, Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico. While I have not tried all the subscription services that are available, I have tried StitchFix, and the FabFitFun box was more affordable that StitchFix, for similar products. Of course each situation is unique, and what works for my budget may not work for someone else. There is no obligation to continue the service if you don’t like the products or the cost doesn’t work for your budget.

    Hi Jennifer,

Thanks for the great information about the FabFitFun economical option to the Stitch Fix business model.

I haven’t shopped for clothes inside a store for years, thanks to all the online options. I’m partially disabled and can’t walk or stand as long as I used to, so online is the way to go for me.

I appreciate your pictures of the products, and the fact that anything can be returned if necessary.

This is a helpful site, and I look forward to coming back again to learn more.

Even before my Cancer diagnosis, I was never really a fan of going to the mall. Too often I would find items that I loved, but wouldn’t be available in the size I needed, or they looked better on the hanger than on me. After going through Cancer treatment, I don’t have the energy to spend hours scouring the racks. I do majority of my clothing shopping online now, and I am somewhat addicted to these clothing subscription boxes. I just can’t participate in them as often as I would like, mostly because my budget prevents me from doing so. The FabFitFun Style box was nice because it was the first box I’ve come across that was actually affordable for someone like me who has designer taste on a ramen budget 🙂
